Marley park in Rathfarnham was the location of the second round of the Dublin Cross country championships. Once again the athletes from Lusk did the village proud.

Adam McNally and Maeve Flynn ran at the Under 11 age group. There was a very large number of runners, but both did very well.

Darren Ryan, James Ryan, Brian Flynn, Rory Sweetman and Leon Murphy ran at the Under 13 age group. Darren ran an excellent race from the start and finished very well. James showed his true potential by running his best race so far this season.

Shane McNally kept the flag flying for Lusk at Under 15. Once again he put in a very strong performance in a very competitive group. Well done to all.

Lusk Athletic Notes 02-Nov-2009
On Sunday 1st November the "Even" ages Dublin County Cross country Championships took place in a wet and windy St. Annes Park, Raheny. Adam McNally ran well in the Under 10 age group. Darren Ryan, Brian Flynn and James Ryan took part in an Under 14 age group and despite being out of their normal category, they ran very well. Next Sunday the "Uneven" ages races will takes place in the Phoenix park at 11am.

Well done to all the Lusk athletes who took part in the Dublin City Marathon this year. Angela McEvoy, Paula Fitzsimons, Donna Nelson, Sharon Keating, David Russell, Mark Doolin and Dan Sherry recorded excellent times. Good luck to Richard Foy who takes part in the New York marathon. Some of our athletes are already preparing for the Belfast marathon next Easter so if you are interested, now is a good time to start.

The Little Athletics training continues in Lusk National School every Tuesday night at 7pm.

The Gerry Farnham cross country competition was held last weekend in the Phoenix park, in perfect conditions for running. This was the 25th anniversary of the race which is organised by Metro St Brigids.Lusk Athletic club was strongly represented, with many competing for their very first time. Adam McNally, Aine Larkin, Thomas Lara-Leonard, Fiona Tolan, Sean Larkin, Eabha McNally, Maeve Flynn, Kyle McNally and Mark Halpin ran in the U8 to U12 race and all did very well in a very large field of runners. Darren Ryan and Brian Flynn ran in the U13 to U16 age group and both finished well in contention against the older runners.

Next weekend sees the Dublin city Marathon take place and good luck to our adults who are taking part.

On Sunday 1st November a Juvenile "Even" Ages Championships (U10s upwards) takes place in St. Annes Park Raheny. This is a pre entry event only. Therefore anyone wanting to take part should contact Valerie on Tuesday night. Juveniles races start at 11.30am. Junior–Ladies 1.15pm and Men 1.45pm. Senior-Ladies 2.15pm and Men 3pm.

Our athletes preformed excellently in the Phoenix Park last Sunday. Sarah Barry, Adam McNally ran well in the under 10 age goup. Maithiu Hughes put in another strong solo performance in the U11 age. The U13 team of Darren Ryan, Brian Flynn, James Ryan, David Barry and Rory Sweetman represented Lusk well, with James putting in a very gutsy performance on only his second run out. Shane McNally again improved on his personal best and finished strongly in what was a very fast paced race against some very formidable opposition.`

Training for all continues each Tuesday at Lusk National school. New members are always welcome. Dublin Championships are coming up at the end of this month. All athletes must be registered with the club to take part. For more details on membership, training and competition call 086 8519306

On Sunday 18th October, Juvenile races will be held in the Phoenix Park for the ages of U8s to U12s and U13s to U16s. All runners will get a Top and medallion. The Gerry Farnham races for Ladies will be held on the same day at 2:15pm and for Men at 3pm. It will be a good day for all ages.

Lusk Athletic Club Notes 27-Sept-2009
The Cross country season for Juveniles kicked off on Sunday the 20th September in the Phoenix Park. Lusk were well represented and all athletes put in great performances in this first outing of the winter. Sunday 27th September saw the second competition take place in Newbridge House, Donabate. Lusk Athletes were out to do well in this local venue and they did not dissappoint.

Our U10 girls, Hannah Hughes and Sarah Barry put in a great performance in their very first cross country race. Adam McNally and Ciaran O'Toole ran extremely well in the U10 boys race.

Maithiu Hughes and Ronan O'Toole ran in a very tough race, which saw tussles and hard cross country running. Both came in well and did themselves proud.

At U13, the boys team of Darren Ryan, Brian Flynn, David Barry and James Ryan supported each other to the finish. For James, David and Darren, this was their first race of the season. Continued training will see this team improve and do well.

At U15, Shane McNally showed another gutsy performance in a very competitive field of runners, and finished well in contention.

At adult level, congratulations to our ladies who took part in the Loughrea Triathlon last weekend. Angela McEvoy and Jer Doran had an overall time of 1:35:33. Caroline and Lisa Boardman finished in a time of 1:27:02. All did exceptionally well in the competition and showed that the hard training is paying off. Well done to all.

Lusk were also well represented in the Addidas half marathon. Angela McEvoy and Paula Fitzsimons were among the athletes who recorded excellent times. Good luck to all who are preparing for the full marathon at the end of October.

Training for all continues each week, and new members are always welcome. So no matter what your age or ability, why not come along and take part. Dump the gym and get some fresh air training instead. For further details on membership, training and competition call 086 8519306.

Lusk Athletic Club Notes 20-Sept-2009
Cross country training is back in full swing and our first competition happened on Sunday 20th in the Phoenix Park. About a dozen Lusk Athletes took part and all did very well in their first competition. Next weekend the competition comes closer to home, in Newbridge House, Donabate. All support will be welcomed on the day.

Training for all age groups continues behind Lusk National School every Tuesday at 7pm. New members are always welcome. All athletes who want to run in competition this winter should ensure that they have their membership paid up.

Some courses on Code of Ethics and the Little Athletics programme are coming up shortly. For more details contact Valerie.
